Kyra
Belán received a B.F.A. in painting from Arizona
State University, M.F.A. in visual arts from Florida State
University, and Ed.D. in higher education and art history
from Florida International University. Currently, Dr.
Belán is a professor of art and art history at
Broward Community College, Pembroke Pines, Florida.
Author of several books, articles, and reviews in art
magazines, Belán has also written several books,
including Dorothy Gillespie (Radford University
Press, 1998, co-author); Lucid Future (a novel,
Aegina Press, 1999); Madonnas From Medieval to Modern
(Parkstone Press, 2001, translated into German and French);
and Art, Myths, and Rituals: Visual Language for the
New Reality (Bent Tree Press, 2004).
Belán has had more than 45 solo exhibitions and
more than 80 group exhibitions across the U.S. and abroad.
These include exhibits at the Museum of Art, Ft. Lauderdale,
Florida; Boca Raton Museum of Art, Florida; Kassel Museum,
Germany; Lowe Art Museum, Coral Gables, Florida; The Latin
American Art Museum, Miami, Florida; Metropolitan Museum
of Art in Coral Gables; Florida Art and Culture Center,
Hollywood, Florida; Miami Dade College, Florida; Philadelphia
Art Alliance, Pennsylvania; The Rim Institute, Payson,

Belán's artwork has been included in numerous books,

Outstanding Artist of the Southeast. She is listed in
Who's Who in American Art.
